What is a normal rectal temp in a 3 1/2 month old? I know 98.6 is normal for the mouth but not sure rectally....and I just take it that way bc she screams for me taking itnunder her arm she hates to have her arm held down for any period of time

  • 100.4 or higher is a fever, regardless of age. In babies less than 2 months old, any fever (so any temp 100.4+) warrants a call to the doctor. After 2 months, you can try giving some Tylenol or Motrin and seeing if it goes down before you call the doc, but you still want to call if it lasts more than a couple of days or if it gets above 103 (which, again, is a high fever for any age).
