Training for a Marathon

I am going to run in a marathon in Oct. I have never done this, but in honor to celebrate having thyroid cancer and now being healthy, and turning 40 this is something I have always wanted to do. If you have run in marathons can you give me advise on what I need to be doing now, are there any certain exercises besides running and what should I be eating?

  • I ran 8 to 10 miles outdoors 5 days a week then took 1 day off and then did my long run which was usually 16 miles. As I got closer to the date of the race I increased my long run to 20 miles. I didn't start doing the long runs until 8 weeks prior to the marathon.
