do you think babies are born happy?

My 3.5 month old dd seems to be very happy baby, she's always smiling. Is this her personality or is she just a normal baby. btw my mother said that I was the same way and I consider myself a happy person.

  • No, I think every baby has a different temperament. I think my son was born just a little crabby. He smiled on cue at 6 weeks and has always been happy when someone's entertaining him, but he gets bored easy and whines a lot.

  • I don't know that I'd say all. My sister screamed from birth until..well she's 19 and still screams a lot.. i'm told I was a happy baby and my son was a pretty happy baby and is now a pretty happy toddler. I've met a couple less-than-happy babies. I think it's more personality than just being a baby.
PS: congrats on your little :)

  • I don't know the answer but my DD has been happy since birth. I think thats why I was shocked when taking care of a newborn wasn't as hard as people said it would be. She would and still only cries when she's hungry. She always has a smile on her face.
    It may just be personality.

  • I think babies are just born with their personalitites. My daughter (5 months) has been extremely happy & easy-going since birth.

  • There's so much that goes into a new baby's temperament. My first daughter was colicky and she seemed so miserable and she probably was... but it was physiological... it's not her personality now. She's a very happy almost-3 year-old girl. My second daughter was happy/content just about all the time, but she was almost always asleep, too! She's a happy girl now at 19 months...

  • IDK,My grandmother used to say that about my Mom. My Mom tells me that she never could understand why my grandmother thought that, because she remembers being a NOT so happy child. Hopefully your right though, your lo is a happy baby:)

  • It just depends on their temperment, and I don't think it necessarily indicates what their personality will be like later on.
