Henry Waxman (D-CA) said he was going to subpoena CEOs from companies like AT&T and Caterpillar after they claimed losses due to healthcare bill?

That was in March... Guess what? Waxman Abruptly CANCELLED the subpeoena threats because But after investigating, House Democrats have concluded that the companies were RIGHT to tell investors and the government about the expected adverse effects of the law on their financial results.

Investigating? How do you feel that Democrats voted for a bill they did not read and have to INVESTIGATE the bill.. Shouldn't they have KNOWN what was in the bill?

  • I thought it was hysterical. The CEO's were ready to come and explain the LAW to the idiots who passed them and then Waxman says "Oops never mind." It's like Rosanna Rosanna Dana. (yes I'm dating myself. Gilda Radner SNL character from way back when.)

  • When major companies declared that a provision of the new health care law would hurt earnings, Democrats were skeptical. But after investigating, House Democrats have concluded that the companies were right to tell investors and the government about the expected adverse effects of the law on their financial results. … In a memorandum summarizing its investigation, the Democratic staff of the committee said, “The companies acted properly and in accordance with accounting standards in submitting filings to the S.E.C. in March and April.”

  • Well, grly, they may not have known what was IN the bill per say, but they certainly knew how much it was going to really COST taxpayers a full WEEK before they voted on it!!! Hmmmmm....so who are the bold-faced liars now?! *sigh*

"The economic report released last week by Health and Human Services, which indicated that President Barack Obama's health care "reform" law would actually increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on consumers, had been submitted to the office of HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebillus more than a week before the Congressional votes on the bill, according to career HHS sources, who added that Sebelius's staff refused to review the document before the vote was taken."

  • I am furious that Democrats voted for a bill that they did not thoroughly read. I know they did not thoroughly read it because I am reading it right now, and it's taking serious time to do so. They were not allowed the time they needed to carefully read the entire document before the vote, so the vote should not have been allowed to happen when it did.

Every Congressman and Senator has an obligation to carefully read every word of every bill that he or she votes on BEFORE the vote to determine whether or note the bill is Constitutionally viable and is in the best interest of his or her constituents. Failure to do so is the absolute dereliction of duty and should be treated as such. In the private sector, people are fired for less than that.

  • That is why they cancelled the bully session with the CEO's. They did not want to bring more attention to the fact in hopes it would fade from the memories of the lib voters.

  • And in other news, those layoffs at Sallie Mae that everyone said were just GOP propaganda?  1200 laid off so far in Texas and Florida, 1300 more still to be laid off.  Wow this bill was an awesome idea!
