What do you do when you are breast feeding your newborn and your 18 month old (who has been weaned for a year) comes up to you and tries nursing on your other breast?

Not sure what to do with that.

  • My daughter was 16 months when my second was born. She had only been weaned a couple of months (she did it herself) and although she made gestures like that and was interested in "trying," she didn't really try to latch on before she backed away with a smile. There's no reason not to let her try... I don't think it's very likely your 18 month will figure out how to latch again.

  • I'd nurse both children.

  • Whatever you want. Nursing him is fine. Saying no is also fine.

  • If it were my son, I would let him try.... he would probably not do it anyway, he likes to pretend and things things like that are funny.
