Refugee question add on..

OP posted this previously: Because "we" haven't legally termed Mexican's as refugees??

Beachcomb replied with this: Yes cause we should just do that at will regardless any facts. So let's just check the definition of "Refugee" shall we?

"Under the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees from 1951, a refugee is a person who, owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of their nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail him/herself of the protection of that country."

***How exactly do Mexican citizens fall into this definition?? You do realize that you're basically insulting actual refugees when you suggest that right?***

How should I interpret her last sentence?? Edify me please.

  • I really think you need to take this up with the UN! You're not going to get a satisfactory answer from us moms here on CM who AGREE with the Arizona law, and the legal immigration process as it stands. Sorry.

  • Sounds like you, OP have issues with the UN's definition of 'refugeee'..... And in case you didn't know Arizona Law = Federal Law. So if you take issue with the AZ law, then you might want to take that up with Congress.... This isn't Rocket Science, but it does require ones ability to read and comprehend.... GOOD LUCK! :o)

  • wow. i come on today to see my day of debating yesterday indeed had an impact because i am being quoted all over the place....i am the person who originally posted them as refugee in a another thread. and it is true...most do not realize when we say it is a drug was over isnt like even the roughest neighborhood in America. it literally is an all out drug war. the government has been overturned by the gangs and the law enforcement have been corrupted from the bottom up the citizens of mexico have no where to turn and their leader wont help them. and their military is not as strong as the gangs....when u here gangs do NOT think american gangs...maybe mafia or drug lords would better suite the situation to bring out the true spectrum of the situation. they are refugees because most are fleeing out of fear for their lives. i have been told about what happens to people there..look it up and read/watch some news on it, u

  • First my name is beachmama but that's ok; lol

And how you intrepret it is read the definition. See that citizens of Mexico do not fit. And realize that by attempting to include them you insult real actual refugee's and diminish what they've gone though.

  • Compare Rwanda to Mexico. Compare Vietnam after the war to Mexico. Those people who came here are real refugees. That should clarify the definition.

The youtube video is not a solid fact you can use to prove your point. It's an opinion piece. I could film a similar one in areas of the US that would make you cringe and gasp with horror. Yet Mexico isn't taking our poor and calling them refugees.

  • Did you watch the video? I think it agrees with your POV
