Looking for a church

I grew up Catholic and my husband grew up Nazerine. Due to the recent happenings in the Catholic church, I don't really feel right there and my husband and I agree that we don't want our son to be put in a stiuation that all too many boys have in the Catholic church. There are many things that I miss about the church, so we are looking for something similar. I like the aspect of communion every week or at least often and the fact that marriage is a sacrament/very important. I like that I come away from church feeling closer to God and better about myself. Any ideas??

  • Episcopalian is like relaxed Catholic. i know exactly how you feel. I was raised Catholic, also. It feels so weird to walk into any other church. You just keep waiting for your cue to stand, sit or kneel lol!

  • church of Christ... it is strictly bible based... no saints or anything. Its close knit, conservative, and again--based on teh BIBLE.
So there are many differences from the Catholic church.. but going to a cofC or any "Christian" church (ie non-denominational) will generally give you the morals you are looking for, marriage is sacred, and communion is EVERY WEEK. It is different and will take getting used to, but I have a friend who came from Catholocism and is glad because she finds everything so sound.

  • I was going to say Episcopalian also... I've heard it called "Catholic Light" (buy Episcopalian friends of mine... so no one get all nasty on me please).

Maybe Pentecostal??? But, I really don't know ANYTHING about that one!! I just know they seem really into their church in the community sense.

  • My husband and I go to harvest. We both have grown so much in the Lord! It's a solid church. You should see if there is a harvest bible chaple by you.

  • Check out the LDS church. Weekly sacrament (kind of similar to Communion) and family and marriage are very important.

    The main church website:

and their more simplified website that tells basic beliefs:

Best wishes in your search for a church. : )
