A baby found alive nearly a day after a failed abortion in Italy had been rejected by his mother because he had a cleft lip and palate?

The 22-week infant was found breathing a day after the operation. He died one day later in intensive care at a hospital in the mother's home town of Rossano, in southern Italy.

The mother, pregnant for the first time, had opted for an abortion after prenatal scans revealed that the foetus had a cleft lip and palate, according to reports in the Italian media. The condition is treatable with surgery.

  • And people wonder why states are starting to limit abortions to 20 weeks. Some "mothers" are just selfish...

  • The mind of a selfish mother: When your baby isn't perfect, just throw it away and try again.

  • This is terrible. It breaks my heart that there are people out there like this. Of course this condition can be treated. My little cousin was born this way and is now a healthy normal looking teenager. People, don't abort... give your baby a chance at life and parents who give a crap about them

  • Ohhh my.. Read the rest of the article... Heart Breaking:

However, the infant survived the procedure, carried out on Saturday in the Rossano Calabro hospital, and was left by doctors to die.

He was discovered alive the following day – some 20 hours after the operation – by Father Antonio Martello, the hospital chaplain, who had gone to pray beside his body. He found that the baby, wrapped in a sheet with his umbilical cord still attached, was moving and breathing.

  • Why is this story anymore heartbreaking than those of the millions of unborn children who have suffered the same fate through abortion? Allowing millions of innocent children to ripped out of their mother's womb has bred a mindset that children are just things we throw away when they don't fit into the plan we have for our lives at the moment. There are millions of other stories of children just like this, however, they were just never told. People should be horrified by the fact that abortion even exists, not just the stories like this that put an actual face on the victim & expose the reality of the tragedy of such a procedure.

  • Beyond the obvious in this heartbreaking story, is the fact that a Cleft lip and palate CAN be corrected with surgery. One of my cousin's is an Otolaryngologist--(Ear, Nose and Throat) surgeon, and participates annually in the Doctors Without Borders program. There are MANY doctors like him who perform these restorative operations for FREE for residents of countries who cannot afford or obtain the medical procedures.
