How soon can I run after experiencing a painful calf cramp?

I just recently worked up to running 4-5 miles a day. It feels great and I didn't think I was overexerting myself but I strained a muscle in my calf. I tried to run today and went one mile till I felt pain in one spot of my calf again so severe I had to stop. When can I run again-how long do these cramps last? Are there stretches I can do to make it heal quicker?

  • I would up your intake of potassium and start by walk then jog and alternate instead of going full out run again for a week

  • a banana a day will keep the cramping away

    start slow, and build on.

lots of stretching and massage after to keep it limber.

  • If you don't like or can't eat bananas, pineapple and pineapple juice are also high in potassium.
