  • Maybe an-age approiate basketball hoop (the stand alone kind, you say young boy, and I've seen little toy ones--not the big ones) IDK, thats the first thing that popped into my head when I read this

  • Gift card so he can pick out something when they get to their new house for his new room. Or maybe something for the drive/flight to keep him occupied, books, travel magnadoodle, crayola wonder stuff, dvd if they have a portable dvd player.

  • It depends on your relationship to the boy and his age. A photobook made at www.shutterfly.com with photos of places in your home town, his friends here and family here would be an awesome keepsake that would make him feel more secure in leaving.

  • i think a photobook is a great idea, it doesn't have to be an actual book, you could just get a photo album and save a few dollars.
