Should parents be required to submit an ID if their baby is born in The United States in order to issue a Birth Certificate?

And if parents were illegally residing in The US....How do you propose for the government to address this issue?

  • Actually, within a few years ALL of the states have to enact the Real ID act. Google it. When you to the DMV, from now on, to get anything done you have to have your birth certificate, social security card, and 2 proofs of address. It will not be so easy for illegal persons to just up and get an ID. Florida already has it enacted. It also is a way to prevent terrorists from coming here and obtaining Identifications...And a lot of states also make you show ID to print a birth certificate but it doesnt have to be the parents to go and get it - anyone can print it out if you know the parents names and what not...just have to document who it is who has obtained the BC

  • It wouldn't matter which country the parents are from, if the baby is born on US soil then they are automatically eligible to be a US citizen.

  • The government doesn't care about where the parents are from. If a baby is born here to illegal parents the child will grow to be an American Citizen.

Well if the government wants to deter illegals this could be a way of doing it.

So then the parents have to stay here no matter what. This is why our system is so broken.

  • This would require changing the constitution and we see that the Obama administration is heavily in favor of amnesty. They won't change the constitution to make citizenship more difficult to obtain.

It wouldn't be fair for the baby to send report the parents. Perhaps the government could initiate the paper work for the parents to become legal therefore giving them the responsibility to raise the baby.
