Is this normal for a bi-racial child?

My daughter is almost 8 months old, she is German(me) and Mexican(my dh) and she was born with a birth mark. And then in the arch of her back is a big blue color birthmark. I was just wondering if it normal and what it was, her doctor said it was but I am just a little weary...2 of my nieces have it and they are white and mexican.

  • It's called a mongolian sign. It will go away in a few years.

  • I've never known of any hispanic/white children to have it. I would trust the doctor.

  • My white/Irish son has one. I thought that the blue birthmarks only happened on dark skinned babies, but I now know otherwise LOL! His is on the front, just below his waist and it looks a lot like a bruise. He is almost 10 and it still looks the same as when he was a baby.

  • birth marks show up all over the body in various colors. if the doc says its ok then just let it be. i've met people with birth marks in the white of their eye. ugly and wierd but its not completely unusal.
