Are leggings pants or tights that go to the ankles?

My 9 yr old daughter was given an outfit for her birthday which consisted of a shirt/dress and lightweight leggings with lace around the ankles. My daughter insists on wearing the leggings like pants with a t-shirt that only goes to her waist. Since these leggings are 'tight' around her lower abdomen and her behind I don't think she should be going to school like that (call me prudish). Am I wrong or are leggings only meant to be worn with long shirts and dresses?

  • Because they are so tight and show off "everything" I only allow my 8 year old daughter to wear them under dresses or shirts that cover her tush.

  • If she is thin, she could probably get away with it. But I think they are meant to be worn with a longer shirt or dress that covers the tush.

  • In our school district - leggings are defined at hose with out feet and thusly must be worn under a dress or very long shirt.

  • I see them as pants. The good thing about them is that they look good with anything really.IF they are very thin then No she should not wear them to school. They make thinker leggings to be worn as pants with a Tshirt.

  • i think it looks tacky wearing them with a shorter shirt.. she should find a shirt that sits at her butt if not longer.
