I believe they were very knowledgeable, the Tree of Knowledge was not something that held knowledge in and of itself, it stood for God right are creator to set the standards of what was good or bad, right or wrong. as long as they didn't take from that Tree they in effect were saying that they would live by God's choice and receive the benefits of living under God's rulership, the day they took and ate from it they were saying they no longer wanted to follow his laws and wanted to choose what was good and bad for themselves. that's why Adam covered himself after he had eaten from it because he set that being naked was wrong not God....

3gigglemonsters Thanks, and it was your posts that prompted this one, I noticed that lots of people think that Adam and Eve were (in my words) like brainless twits and that they ate from the tree so they'd be intelligent, but they were very intelligent. it was about recognizing God's Sovereignty and His right to set laws for his creations. Adam and Eve benefited from those laws and God told them that rejecting his ruler-ship meant losing the benefits too, Everlasting Life and living in a paradise along with no sickness ever for them or their children and having Dominion over the earth, No killer storms, no animal attacks and we wouldn't be destroying the earth through selfishness, greed or ignorance.
