Does anyone else have a mother who doesn't like to baby sit?

I rarely ever ask my mother to baby sit but every time I do ask she makes it seem like it's such a burden even though I really only ask her to watch him at night when he is alseep. She agrees most times but only after a big sigh and an "I guess so..." She is the only family I have within 600 miles and the only person I can use as a babysitter. I swear I ask her maybe twice a month, and always when he's asleep for just a few hours. I envy those with grandmothers who always love to watch their grandkids lol.

  • ok around us is a MIL. my mom and a SIL yet we never get a night out. The only time I even ask for sitter help is when I have an appt but usually I take kids along! Everyone acts like its such a hassel and I rarely ask. I get annoyed yet my SIL lives with my MIL and she watches her kids all the time then complains how she never sees my kids!

  • Just because she has the title of grandmother does not make her an automatic babysitter...You can find a sitter if you look...I know it is hard, but it can be done...I know because we are a military family so I do a lot searching for sitters.

  • I hear ya!! My dad and step mom love to SEE my son but when it comes to babysitting for a couple hours they kinda just act like they have better things to do. I mean they rarely say no but they always make me feel bad about asking. But they didn't raise me or my brother so I don't think they know how nice a break feels even if its just a couple hours.

  • omg girl, that is my theme tune! my mom never helps, and IF (IF IF IF IF) she does, she wants paid to do it. I never ask my mom for crap any more, shes useless when it comes to helping me or my family. And sadly, shes the only family we have around to help. My mom always says no, always refuses, and she claims to love my kids more than I do. Which is highly unlikely. Honestly, I think my mom has so many issues, she blames everyone around her, and makes excuses for not being there for my kids. What a great mom I have! YAY! =(

  • my mother has NEVER watched my kids, not even for an hour. my oldest is almost 6 and she only lives 20 min away. she sees them maybe 6 times a year. consider yourself lucky.

  • My Mom is not a baby person. She has her own life and after raising 3 kids, I don't blame her. Luckily we don't live near her, we live near my MIL who likes babies!

  • Well, I am a grandma, and I have to say that babysitting is not my favorite thing to do. I am very used to having my freedom and not being tied down. I raised my two!!!

  • I would think it's not so much that grandparents should babysit. It's more sad that they AREN'T interested. Mine are not interested but they do have 12 grandkids, none of whom they can be bothered to see.
