Why is it important to wean my child off the bottle?

Children using bottles are more likely to have tooth decay or improper dental development, and they may not develop appropriate feeding skills. Also, children who depend on bottle feedings may not consume enough solid foods to meet their nutrient needs."

  • A child no longer needs formula or cow's milk. Like everyone else the toddler should be drinking water. Mother's don't know what's best just by being a mother. Sippy cups can cause dental and speech problems.

  • a nutrionist at wic told me 14months. its hard to fight the grandparents who also watch her. so i am having a hard time. i am going to try to do it by 18months. i think that would be long enough i try to send her with sippies to daycare but other wise she still drinks the bottle. i think you know your children better then anyone. you know when they can transition. and no not everyone will have messed up teeth if they are on bottle over a year. myself included was on a bottle over a year and i don't have any teeth problems. i think its an individual decision. good luck
