Weed killers

This is the first year that we've done a garden and we waited a little too long to decide that we were doing one. So we didn't have a lot of time to prep the area before having to plant. Everything is planted now and we're seeing a lot of grass and clover come up. No, this is not the plants starting to grow, this stuff was there as I was planting all the seeds. Anyway, I know there are lots of products out there that will kill the grass and weeds and not the veggies, but what is the best? What do you all use/suggest?

  • honestly, i pull them by hand. there are hand tools of course that you could use if you are not to close to your seedlings. once your garden is free of weeds again, you can surround the plants with grass clippings or straw. that will cut down on your weeding.
    good luck with your garden!

  • You don't want to use a herbicide next to the things you want to keep. Try watering well, waiting a couple hours, then weeding manually while the ground is still soft from watering. Then mulch with compost to make the plants stand out and retard growth of new weeds.
