my Dr. said MMR doesnt come seperated?!

Ive heard alot about MMR being able to be seperate if requested. Today we ask Dr. if we could get them all seperately & she said no they all come together.....
Is she lying?

  • I believe Merck was the only manufacturer and they did/will stop producing them separately.

  • Well, no, she probably isn't lying. I asked the same and I was told by our doctor that the MMRs that they receive do not come separated, but if I wanted I could get them elsewhere and bring to our doctor and they would administer. They gave me the names of possible pharmacies that would accomodate....I could not find one pharmacy in a 25 mile radius that could get them separate....perhaps you'll have more luck in your area.

  • My son had his second mmr without the measles part because they assumed that was what he had a reaction to. That was 20 yrs ago. I can't believe they don't still have it seperated. Maybe they just don't have it at your Dr.

  • My doctor told me that they do not order it separate but they would for me if I paid for it. If I got things separated insurance wouldn't cover it.

  • as of last october merck quit producing these vaccines individually. i don't know why, and i don't know if any other pharmaceutical companies make them individually or not.

it's safe to assume why. If they don't come separate it's harder to selectively vax.

  • I would ask her for clarification. Did she mean that HER practise doesn't carry them seperatly or did she mean that as far as she knows, they don't make them seperatly, period.

I do beleive that they do have them seperatly because not every child can have every vax or booster (even if you aren't an anti vax, selective vax parent- sometimes your kid has a reaction), but that isn't a definate.
