  • Well not to be rude but you should never be paying that kind of money without a lease. In court he would win because you are occupying his property. So basically he can say whatever he wants. It is very tacky of him to do that to you. But always sign a lease. It protects you and him. Be lucky he only charged $50.00. You need more info on this guy. I use to do eviction for a major real estate firm and it is scary what happens. They almost always take the landlords side. Sorry this happened to you. He sounds like a jerk or maybe he needed an extra $50 bucks for booze or something else.

  • So did you pay it today then?

Why would you rent from him without a way to contact him? What if you needed emergency repairs done to the place?

  • Tell him you won't do it because it's not in the lease. Then he'll have to face the fact that he didn't give you a lease. you are not contractually obligated to pay anything. You could leave tomorrow without notice and there is nothing he can do about it. Of course you don't want to do that but you can get the information you need from him if you have a proper lease. Good luck.
