What would you think of...

Mother A. Leaving her 1 week old newborn at home with a babysitter, to go to an OPTIONAL convention, 500 miles away, for 2 weeks

and

Mother B. Going to a MLB game, 5 days after having a baby and getting so drunk that she couldn't come home. (Baby was at home with a babysitter)

Just want to her your opinions! And yes its not my life, but everyone has an opinion!

  • I can not understand going away and leaving a newborn for two weeks by choice....almost incomprehensible as a mother. Going to a baseball game, not such a big deal. Of course she shouldn't have had so much to drink, but could it be that her hormones were out of whack and she got drunker than she thought she would. I would have to reserve judgement on that one unless I knew the mom was generally irresponsible or had a drinking problem. Not good, but maybe not condemnable either.

  • I dont agree with either because i know I couldnt leave my newborn home alone. But if the convention would help the moms career, i can see why she would go.

  • A,  I would wonder why she bothered having a baby if she didn't want to be burdened by actually taking care of it.

    B.  Totally irresponsible.

  • I agree with BJoan. Also keep in mind that most likely Mother B hadn't drank any alcohol in about nine months so her alcohol tolerance may be really low, too. A few months ago when my daughter started sleeping 7-8 hours at night before waking to nurse, one night I had two drinks after she went to bed. I felt a little buzzed by two drinks whereas before it would have been more like four drinks to feel a buzz.
