  • Ear infections occur when a cold, throat infection, or allergy attack causes fluid to become trapped in the middle ear. It can also occur from water becoming trapped in the ear, from bathing or swimming.

  • Well, they're secondary effects of the virus. They're bacterial, like a sinus infection or bronchitis Some kids are more prone to them because of an anatomical feature of their ear that they outgrow. So while most kids get tons of colds, or many kids get seasonal allergies, these things can result in an ear infection more frequently in certain kids than others.
