potty training....

we started potty training today...only two accidents today so far....she didn't even pee the first time until 10:45 this morning...and we were up at 7:30...she's peed twice today, and pooped once..the first time, i put a diaper on her, bc i was worried that something was wrong..it's not like her to not have peed already...and sure enough i get the diaper on her and get her layed down for a nap, and she looks at me and says "peepee"...i know she's holding it in, but i don't know how to coach her into peeing on the potty..we have potty time books and everything...she loves her panties (she picked them out), and she'll play sit on her potty....any advice, suggestions, tips, anything? lol..oh, and she doesn't pee at night, thankfully, and she's gone on the potty a couple of times before.

  • Ditch the diaper. It will only confuse things. If you are going to do it, do it all the way. Take her every hour or so. Give her m&ms when she tries. She'll be trained in no time.

  • Ditch the diapers, and keep her full of liquids. She may be holding it in, but she can't hold her pee forever. As soon as you see her start to go, move her to the potty quickly and she may even finish there. Don't spend much time just sitting on the potty, that rarely works. Just get her to the potty when she starts to pee and when some goes in there, show your enthusiasm and offer a small reward if you want. But your hugs and excitement are the most important thing. Most likely she was just aware her underwear was different and didn't know what would happen if she peed in it. And you telling her to pee on the potty and her feeling comfortable actually releasing there are two separate things. If she has a few experiences of you cheering for her as she pees on the potty, she'll catch on. Sounds like she controls her bladder, which is a good sign already.

  • Throw the diapers away! We let our daughter 2 run around with just a shirt on for a week, set the timer for her to go on the potty every 30 min then 45 then every hour, over the course of 3 days. She peed down her leg one time but that was enough. By the end of the week she was wearing big girl panties, only problem is when she hears the microwave timer she asks us if it's potty time occasionally, 4 months diaper free!
