Well this past week i've been having a bunch of dr's appointments, it was discovered that i have gestational diabetes. I have another dr's appt on monday to discuss everything, but i'm just worried about what i should or shldnt eat and i have the whole weekend! i've been stressing over this so bad and i'm scared for my baby... Does anyone know what kinds of meals i should have or stay away from? any input will help thanks!

  • Its not so bad just stay away from excess carbs. and try to cut out sugar until you talk to the nutritionist.

  • Really, I had it was and was nervous too -they talk you through it all and will answer all your questions, the testing is done ahead of time so you really shouldn't worry until your appt to discuss your foods. eat like normal at the moment. Don't be scared for your baby.. they just don't want your baby to get too big is one thing, so they will do weekly monitor's. They will try to control your insulin level's by food intake first, then meds if needed and shots if needed.

  • sorry mama :(
be careful, i know it is hard not to worry, but excess worry can be bad for you and the baby too!
take a deep breath, and realize if it were that urgent, the dr. would have given you brief instructions for the weekend.
try to relax, do some prenatal yoga, go for a walk. avoid sugar, and white carbs for sure. i prefer my brown carbs to be more from brown rice than anything else.
eat lots of veggies, and i think you will be fine until you meet with your dr. again!
i wish you the best of luck!

  • My best friend had it too with her first pregnancy. Eat whole grains (whole wheat, oat meal, brown rice). Don't eat white bread and other junky carbs. Don't eat sweets or drink sweetened drinks. Eat lots of protein and fresh veggies. You can have a couple pieces of fruit a day but would do better eating it with a protein like fruit and cheese or fruit and almonds. You should be fine with veggie starches like potatoes and corn.

    Take care.
