Credit Union

Can you get an account with a credit union if you have bad credit? I don't have bad credit because of a bank overdrawn or anything like that.

  • It depends on the credit union. The one I belong to you can. My credit is less than stellar and they let me open accounts. It doesnt hurt to talk to someone at the CU about opening an account.

  • Yes you can get an account- though they usually do check your credit score and chex right (I think is the name?) to make sure that you don't have any outstanding accounts at other banks or credit unions. But yes you should be able to get an account at a credit union even if you have bad credit.
