  • Call your Dr for advice like this. But I just remember eating and drinking normally. you want to get true results so dont do anything to try to sway your body to do something different. Know what I mean.

  • no i know, i just don't want to eat anything that's going to add more sugar and possibly give a false GD positive. midwife said i could eat beforehand but not afterwards...i'm skinny so i can't do the empty stomach thing

  • I thought it was done on an empty stomach so they could get an accurate reading of your blood sugars because other foods could interfere with it. And that "I'm skinny" line is pretty much crap since a few hours without food won't kill you or harm the baby.

  • i was saying that because it's incredibly uncomfortable for me to go w/o eating and if i don't eat when i'm hungry i get dizzy

  • The glucose test usually requires no food and nothing to drink but water for at least 8 hours before. You can't eat while you are sitting and waiting for the test results either. The gross glucose drink they give you will make you not want to eat. It tastes like thick, syrup.

Being thin or fat has nothing to do with your ability to fast for a few hours, it is simply self-control.

  • The glucose is basically sugar, and will be your "food" for a few hours. Are you doing a 2 or 4 hour test?

  • neither, it's the 1 hour

  • call your midwife and get precise instructions. If you eat before, you will have a high "fasting" sugar level which is one of the markers of GD, and if you eat during the test, then you get a high number as well.
