Why do single mothers use the Medicaid Card to buy toiletries?

I thought that there were limitations of some sort. What are the things that they can buy or can not buy?

  • I would much rather see them using assistance to buy TOILETRIES rather than crap like movies or a SWIMMING POOL! I was behind a lady in line who used her cash assistance to buy a $300 swimming pool at walmart one day...talk about being PISSED!

how do you know she wasn't using child support to pay for the pool? most states put that on their card and if so, i would say that is a fine thing to spend child support on, i mean it's not like she was getting her nails don't with it.

  • I think just toilet paper and such,, I was unaware that you could use a medicaid card for anything other than medicine!

  • I think you are mistaken. Medicaid is for prescriptions and dr. visits, it's an insurance card, not like a debit card for making OTC or toiletries purchases. The foodstamp card does have the ability to purchase these things IF the person is on cash assistance.

  • you can't purchase items with medicaid... you must be thinking of cash benefits on a bridge card...
