how bad is it that my 2 yr old doesnt really drink milk?

i just noticed how rare it is that i give my son milk. he will be 2 next week and milk isnt his favorite. when i give it to him he will drink a little and usually spits the rest out. he does get his servings of dairy through eating yogurt or some kind of cheese (usually paired with macaroni lol) he usually drinks water or watered down fruit juice but i should be giving him more milk right? i just stopped giving it to him as much when he started spitting it out all the time.

  • My sons allergic to milk, so he's never had a glass of milk and he'll be 2 next month. As long as he's getting his calcium from other places, milk isnt necessary. Calcium fortified cereals and breads are a good source for us, my sons a huge breakfast eater and loves dry cereal.

  • Not bad at all. I actually don't believe humans need to drink animal milk, anyway.

  • It's ok, you're not alone!!! I'm lactose intolerant but dd isn't. She does ask for it from time to time and goes through what I call "milk phases" where she only wants to drink milk for a few days (of course she gets it!). She normally drinks water or watered down apple juice as well and gets her diary through cheese/yogurt. I don't think it's a big deal... dh insists the only way to survive is drinking milk so you can imagine his opinion on this..... I figure as long as they aren't pigging out on candy and loads of sugar, they are fine!

  • My daughter just turned two and she hates milk too, I've given up trying to give it do her cuz she's not generally a picky eater at all. She was breastfed untill she self weaned at 21 months, I wonder if formula fed babies take to milk better?

  • So long as he is getting enough dairy/calcium elsewhere it isn't a problem. Have you tried chocolate milk?

  • As long as she's getting calcium from somewhere, there shouldn't be any issue. I wish my kids didn't drink's costing me a small fortune!

  • I would try it again from time to time. My oldest didn't like milk at all when he was little - but once he turned 5 and started getting it with his school lunch he loved it and now I have to limit his milk consumption.

  • My 14 year old has never had a glass of milk. She went from breastmilk to water.

  • My son is 13 and rarely has drank a glass of milk since he was 1. He hates drinking milk. As long as he gets dairy, calcium and fat from other sources, he will be just fine. There are plenty of people that don't drink milk at all because of lactose intolerance and dairy allergies and they are just fine. A person can get calcium, fats, etc from many other sources.
