  • Cinco de Mayo is a drinking holiday, period. So is St. Patrick's Day. If a student wants to wear an American flag t-shirt, in AMERICA no less, they should be allowed to do so. This country is so screwed up it's pathetic. Let's kiss the butt of illegal immigrants and to heck with the AMERICAN citizens.

  • What a ridiculous waste of time. If the students wearing the flags on St. Patrick's Day did so to rile up Irish students....then my guess is, he would do the same. Or he should, anyway.

But, of course, you'll say that they were just showing their American pride.

  • What does wearing them on St. patty's day have to do with anything? If he doesn't let them wear them anyone other day what would that change?

  • I am writing an email to you. It goes something like this:

"Since you care so much about the racial politics in some high school hundreds of miles away from you, you must still be out raged by the nooses hung by the trees in Jena. Or did you support the hanging of the nooses? They were being used as a tool to intimidate African American students. You seem to approve of the intimidation of minority students by means of using our flag to do so (despite the fact that the flag stands for Freedom and Justice for All).

So my question is - since St Patricks day is apparently the same as Cinco de Mayo to you, then you shouldn't have any problems comparing this incident to the Jena incident. Is it okay for students to intentionally intimidate other students based on race???

  • The superintendent worte the following letter with a phone number - every American should contact this man and give them a piece of their mind along with the principal Nick Boden 408-201-6100

Good evening. This is Dr. Wesley Smith, Superintendent of the Morgan Hill Unified School District.
The Morgan ...Hill Unified School District does not prohibit nor do we discourage wearing patriotic clothing. The incident on May 5 at Live Oak High School is extremely unfortunate. While campus safety is our primary concern and administrators made decisions yesterday in an attempt to ensure campus safety, students should not, and will not, be disciplined for wearing patriotic clothing. This situation and our response are under review.

  • We know that this is an emotionally charged topic. We would ask you to encourage your students to be safe and focus on their academics while in school. If conversations and/or activities are necessary to express their feelings on this issue, we will find appropriate venues that do not disturb student learning or jeopardize the safety of our students. Furthermore, we encourage everyone to demonstrate respect for each other, open communication, and responsibility.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
    Dr. Wesley Smith
