Should UHC pay for breast implants? Is this a stupid lawsuit? A violation of human rights?

Transsexual Denied Breast Enlargement, Suing for Human Rights

A transsexual is taking legal action against the National Health Service (NHS) in the U.K. for refusing payment for a breast enlargement operation, claiming it denies her human rights, the Telegraph reported.

The woman, called “C,” said her mental health will be damaged without the surgery, while the West Berkshire Primary Care Trust under NHS insists that the operation is purely cosmetic and unnecessary.

Flat women, unite! We can all sue when HCR goes through! LOL

  • Okay. Let me get this straight. This woman began her life as a man. Had the surgery and is now a woman. It doesn't say if the insurance paid for the sex change. (sorry not sure there's a more pc term for it.) Never pursued it myself but one would imagine it would define "elective" surgery and therefore not be covered. Now she's a woman she wants bigger boobs. This is really getting ridiculous. I realize this is England but my goodness where does it end? Enlarge a guys penis cause he wants to work in the porn industry? (I realize the two are unrelated, just making a point)

  • That is just pathetic, isn't it? Health Care should NOT pay for cosmetic surgery. Breast implants/enlargenet for a transexual? Sorry, but he/she should pay for them. Good grief..... I sure hope the lawsuit gets tossed out.

  • HELL NO this shouldn't be paid for. There are plenty of WOMEN out there who have small breasts, breasts that aren't the same size as the other, saggy, full of stretch marks, etc....and they don't demand the govt pay for them to get new boobs. You deal with it.

  • I find this ridiculous and funny, but think it's going to be the wave of the future, once we get "free" health care.

  • It's not covered here in Canada. You can get a breast reduction and it's covered or reconstruction covered, but not implants for the sake of bigger boobs.
