  • They said Bush did not like black people, so I guess this means Obama does not like redneck hillbillies.

  • Had the Deepwater Horizon NOT blown up, and had there not been a bombing attempt in Times Square, the Tennessee floods would be top of every newscast for a month.

    But there is coverage.

And this story kept me listening in my car yesterday: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126776761

Why does it seem no one cares? Possibly because as bad as the flood was...it was no Katrina.

  • SO because it may not be as bad as Katrina it doesn't get as much coverage? So Katrina is what we set our reporting standards to?

  • "SO because it may not be as bad as Katrina it doesn't get as much coverage? So Katrina is what we set our reporting standards to? "

    Actually, YES.

It's a question of priorities, in a time when there are LOTS of big national stories and VERY FEW resources on the national level. Every single network has slashed its field teams. So an editor has to make decisions on a daily basis on where to send the resources.

Let's play "You be the editor." You have TWO mobile crews. And you have the following stories to go cover today:

    1. FBI raids in the northeast for Times Square attack info.
    2. Eric Holder on Capitol Hill re: terrorist trials
    3. BP's new move to stop the gulf spill
    4. Gen. McChrystal does a Pentagon briefing.
    5. Tennesee flood update

What do you choose? Generally, what's NEW and then what has the best pictures.

Yeah, it stinks. Welcome to broadcast news post-cutbacks.

  • It just proves the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If there were classless people in TN screaming about the government not helping them then they would get help. But, they are depending on EACH OTHER like it should be.
