How often do 3 week old BF babies poo?

We're getting tons of wet diapers, and last week she had already gained a pound, so I know getting enough isn't the issue, just don't remember if they can start slowing down on their pooing yet. Thanks mamas

  • Infants can poop anywhere from 10 times a day to once a week. As long as they are having wet diapers, thats whats important.

  • My 3 week old breastfed boy is pooping at least 5 times a day, and sometimes more.

  • It does slow down eventually, but for the first couple of months, they're pooping A LOT. My babies would poop every time they nursed- sometimes in betweeen too... you feel like it will never slow down, but it does.. .:)

  • Mine went #2 every time they nursed for about the first six weeks or so. Then they started having less and less (gradually over time) until they were down to just one or two a day.

  • That's the problem, she has slowed down....well yesterday she had little....skid mark (?) type poos lol, then today, yeah she totally made up for it, 2 ridiculous blowouts lol

  • Sounds normal. It's more about the color and consistency of the poops, not the frequency. As long as they are soft and mustardy, she's fine. Every baby is different, and some days, there will be none, and some days, there will be 10. =)

  • They usually start slowing down all of a sudden at about 6-8 weeks, but if they don't it's ok too.
