Knitting help!!!

So I'm a fairly inexperienced knitter but I am attempting to knit a sweater(so far so good).

I've got the back, both front pieces, and both sleeves done.

I'm working on the hood right now and the patter says:
"cast off 23 in patt, patt 22, cast off 23 sts in patt."

So I did that. The part I'm stuck on is:
"With ws facing, rejoin yearn to rem 23 sts, purl to end."

How do I rejoin? Also, if I only knit 22 stitches in the pattern and cast off 23 on either side then wouldn't I only have 22 sts to work with?

I haven't totally cast off because I'm confused. I have one stitch left on my needle but it's at the end of the row, not close to the chunk of sts I did in the middle before starting to cast off.

Did I screw it up?
I'm so confused, lol.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

  • No it shouldn't, but its not uncommon for a pattern to be written wrong. If you need to see a rejoin, try www.knittinghelp.com.

  • You rejoin by holding a piece of yarn to the needle and continuing to knit from that ball. It sounds like you only have to rejoin and you should be good with your pattern. 22 vs 23 sounds like a typo. Is there a link to the pattern?

  • I don't have a link, my mum gave me the pattern.

I guess one stitch wont make that big of a difference anyways right? Lol, Oy vey.

    Thanks for your help. :)

  • Hmmm, looking at the pattern again, 22 stitches doesn't make any sense at all. To start the hood I had to cast on 69sts.
So if I cast off 23, knit 22 and cast off 23 that's only a total of 68 sts.

    Crap.
