What are your staples?

What are the staples that you keep on hand at all times? I'm trying to do more cooking from "scratch" lately and want to keep a fairly stocked kitchen, other than fresh meats and produce so I only have a couple things to pick up on the way home. Include any recipes that are family favorites if you wish!

  • White/balsamic/red wine/cider vinegars
    olive oil
    molasses
    vanilla extract
    cocoa powder
    breadcrumbs
    sesame oil
    peanut oil
    vegetable oil
    crisco
    cornmeal
    cornstarch
    baking soda
    baking powder
    all purpose flour
    whole wheat flour
    Soy sauce
    teriyaki sauce
    hoison sauce
    hot sauce

This is really all that I can think of off the top of my head (I'm in the basement), but as you can see some is for baking. I didn't list spices, but I have more than I can remember........I cook basically everything from scratch so every time I see a spice that I don't have, I buy it.

  • Oh for regular foods, I keep stuff like:

    whole wheat pastas
    brown rice
    tomato sauce
    tomato paste
    diced tomatoes
olives (black and green pimiento stuffed)
    kidney/black/pinto beans/gandules
    canned mushrooms
    water chesnuts
    fat free chicken/vegetable broth
    cream of chicken/mushroom soups

That's all I can think of for these types of items.

  • A variety of pasta. Rice - instant brown, regular brown & white. Sauces - spaghetti, alfredo, cheese, cream soups, ingredients for homemade white sauce. Veggies - frozen & some canned (fresh is a twice-a-week, get what's on sale, or what's ready in the garden). Fruit - canned, fillings, fresh. Flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, spices, herbs, etc. Crackers - saltines, snack, etc. Juices - fruit, veggie, tomato. Potatoes - fresh & frozen (no instant). Breads. Eggs. Lunchmeat. I could go on but then I'd be late picking up the kids from school, and starting supper!
