Puppy Training help

We adopted a doggy yesterday, he is a little puppy, unfortunately every time he gets excited he pees, not just a couple drops like our other dog did when he was a puppy, but everything in his whole bladder, he is medically okay, no problem with his bladder, is this normal? will he grow out of it? Is there a way for me to aid him in kicking this habit?

  • one thing I learned is to not over excite a dog that pees from excitement. for example the situations that make him pee, IGNORE him completely until he is calm, then reward the calmness. also dogs do this as a sign of submission so in his mind he is giving you a gift. again if its submissive urination, ignore it.he may outgrow it, it just basically sounds like you adopted a guy with no house training at all. and when he does go, givwe it no attn at all, just wipe it up and go on about your business. hopefully he will connect that when he pees he gets no attn at all, and when he doesnt he gets loved up.

  • This is very normal it is called submissive peeing. Most dogs do out grow this but you can help but doing a few things. When you come home and the pup is excited to not acknowledge the pup until he settles down. Also when you bend over to pet him it may cause him to pee because that is a dominant posture so if this is a small dog instead of leaning forward try going down on your knees. Have your friends and family do the same as far as ingoring the pup when they first enter your home.
