Breastfeeding and periods

I am breastfeeding my youngest and I had a couple of periods and wondering if your period can be messed up by breastfeeding and can skip some months??

  • Yes, they can be irregular or non-existent. I didn't have a period at all between my first and second children. I breastfed for 12 months and then got pregnant as soon as I began to wean him. I didn't have a period for 14 months after my second son was born. I began having one as soon as I began to wean.

  • Yes they can be. I didn't get mine back until my kids were about 15 months old and they were very erratic. Everything from a 22-48 day cycle for the first year after they started (I was still nursing too).

  • I have had a couple regular cycles, but after those 2 there has been nothing but the occasional spotting. don't skimp on protection if you don't wan tto be pregnant though. there is no telling when you will start ovulating again.
