need instructions on how to line dry?

so i was trying to do some research on putting up a clothes line. My FIL is having some issues, first the cement didn't set then it didn't stick to the soil, and now he is trying something else. But all i found on line was instructions on how to hang your clothing to dry.

Umm do people really not know how to do this? seriously? its not rocket science.

  • Dig you a hole that is atleast 2 feet deep, stick the pole in the ground, get you a bunch of rocks, add rocks to the hole around the pole, get a stick and tap the rocks down (like your packing it), add more rocks if there is room, until the pole will not move.

That should work, since the cement wont. Good Luck.

  • Is he mixing the cement with dirt? If its just cement it will crack and not hold. You need to mix in the dirt from the hole AND some rocks with it...

  • Did your FIL use "Quick Set" cement? You need those heavy cardboard tubes for cement! Dig a hole as close to 3 feet deep as possible (to prevent against freezing, and the cement from popping out of the ground). Place the cement tube in the hole, and then the line pole with someone holding the pole steady, pour the quick set in the tube, use a long wooden stick or piece of rebar to eliminate air bubbles, and wait about 30 minutes. Prop the pole upright so it sits evenly overnight. Repeat with the other pole.

  • We just did our clothes line yesterday!! Like PPer said, we mixed the cement with dirt and some small pebbles. Used it today and it works perfectly.

  • He's got to use quickcrete not concrete. Just add water - mix, pour, set.

  • I line dry all the time... right now I have a line stretched, dh is getting me this week an umbrella line...
We are going to put a 3 ft hole for the pole, with concrete and ground stone/sand/dirt mix... that holds well
bc our backyard floods often he wanted something to withstand erosion (sp)
