sleep routine for baby?

My daughter is 6 wks old tomorrow and usually doesn't go down for the night till somewhere around 10 to 11pm and sleeps for about 4 1/2 hrs. This wouldn't be a problem except that I also have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old and they wake for the day between 6 & 7 every morning, so it would be nice to be able to get to bed myself around 9. I'm kind of clueless on how to get her bedtime adjusted to this time. What worked for you? Any suggestions?

  • Maybe you could let your other children stay up later so they sleep later in the morning?

  • This isn't exactly a quick fix but it should help in about a week or two. During the hours you want the new baby awake make sure the house is BRIGHT like windows open or the lights turned on if it's dreary outside and you don't have to actually wake the baby up when it sleeps but lie it down in a noisy room like the family room where your older kids are playing or something. Then about a half hour before you want the baby to go down for the night give them a bath and give them a night time feeding and then after all of that turn off as many lights as possible so it's dark and quiet where ever the baby is until the next morning when you think it's an appropriate time for them to wake up. It's going to take a week or two but the baby will understand that it gets way more stimulation during the day when you want him awake this way and they'll natrually change they're sleep pattern.
