What exactly is it we menstruate ? (maybe not a question for the squeamish)

I am quite embarrassed to be 38 and not know this.....BUT I don't.

Where does the blood come from? I know it can't all be the released what is the rest?

And why am I exhausted the week BEFORE, instead of when I menstruate and is acctually loosing blood ?

  • Your body takes from your blood supply and forms a liner. When your body menstrates, it is shedding that liner. You are not loosing blood since the body replenishes what it sends to the uterus. You do not 'bleed' like from an artery.

  • The Uterus endometrium linning fills with blood to provide nutrition to a fertilized egg, if there is NO fertilized egg, that blood is shed. It's shed approx. 14 days after a woman ovulates
