my kids are 2.5 and 5 years how do we teach them not to walk in on daddy going potty or taking a shower? Both girls...

We usually let our kids in on daddy until they show that they are starting to stair and recognize body parts. My youngest is 2.5 so I know it will be harder on her, but my 5 year old just walks in on daddy too. They will try to peak around the corner of the shower ceartin or if he is peeing they will stair at his stuff even if he is in the shower or just getting dressed they stair at his stuff so we think it is time to tell them it is time to not walk in on daddy. How can I get them to not walk in on him anymore?

  • Don't lock the door.. That's like moving your house around so children don't touch things. TEACH them not to do something with that object tempting them and they'll learn not to touch it regardless. So the same with this. Teach them to not walk in on Daddy. Be consistant. Tell them that Daddy doesn't feel comfortable with his daughters walking while he's having private time. Whether shower, going to the bathroom, or changing. That it isn't appropriate. Your two year old will understand just as much as your five year old. It's the habit that will be hard to break, not that they don't understand. Just be repeditive and keep reenforcing that Daddy doesn't want comapny while he's doing those things.

  • Lock the door? Tell them that's it's impolite and inappropriate to stare at someone's private area. Explain that men and women are different and just tell them, don't look. Not too hard.

  • Why can't he lock the door? Tell them that dad would like privacy in the bathroom, and that when someone is in the bathroom we shouldn't barge in because it's rude.

  • Tell them it is very polite and grown up of them to knock. The show on Nick Jr. called The Upside Down Show has a big theme of knocking. The 2 main characters forget and then are not allowed in the room...reinforcement, it might help you by them seeing it 2 different ways.

  • For about $20 you can buy a new doorknob with a push button lock at Home Depot or Lowes.
