would you let another close family member breast feed your baby?

I have a close friend whose milk has dried up, but her sil has an abundance and has offered to breast feed her lil one. Now I understand the pumping, but I am asking would you allow your baby to suckle from another mom directly?
just curious. :)

  • If I couldn't nurse, then yeah, sure. Breast milk is great stuff, so as long as it was someone I was close with and trusted, then yeah, I would.

  • In theory it sounds ok, but I think if it actually came down to it I wouldn't let someone else BF my son...I would be worried about the baby forming a stronger bond with the other woman than me, his mom. So I would probably let him drink the milk if it were in a bottle but not from her breast. (This would only be if it was absolutly necessary!) I switched to formula when I had to have surgery and my milk dried up.

  • I'd BF someone else's child without blinking. With permission, of course! Not sure about letting anyone else.

  • yeah in theory it sounds ike a beautiful gift but I dont knoww if I could see it either. But i do think she should take the donated pumped milk. I did formula too when mine dried up but I didnt know anyone to help me .

  • Yes. Well my friend tried and my DS snubbed her breast! She was watching him while I was at the hospital with my husband who was having surgery, and told her is she wanted to nurse him go ahead. My son had NEVER been away from me or his dad so I knew he was going to be difficult. I knew she did not drink or take any medication so why not? I would do it for a friend/family memeber if asked.

  • yeah I don't know about that i would gladly take the pumped milk but i wouldn't let my children drink from another woman's breast.
She is lucky to have someone who will give their milk to her though.
