What do you think?

I think it would do us a world of good if more politicians cared as much as this man obviously does. About pretty much anything other than making more money or getting more power. What do you think?

May 27, 2010 — Louisiana Congressman Charlie Melancon broke down during a House Energy subcommittee meeting Thursday morning talking about the BP Oil spill and the coastal damage the spill has caused. (May 27)

  • it isn't apathy, it's how the system works. It stinks from the inside out. Some of them can show their passion for the things that they care about, but in reality, this Congressman is from LA and he is seeing first hand the devastation from this oil spill, and likely feels powerless to help in any way. Our own President can't make a decision about whether Jindal can have them build berms to hold the oil slick at bay and to mitigate the damage. No, instead he says we need environmental impact studies first, all the while airplanes are spraying the waters with chemicals to break up the oil slick. Who says that's working, or if it's having a worse environmental impact on the gulf? What are the long term effects of those chemicals?

Our political system caters to special interests, so there isn't much time left for passions of the heart. It's not pretty, but that's how DC works.

  • OMG And people bash Beck for getting emotional. I guess people would think I am a hardened bitch then. Sure it's going to make a mess out of the wetlands and someone is going to have to clean up the little birdies and turtles but this is not the end of the world. There is a crap load of blame to go around starting with the government entity that allowed BP and others to cut corners if that was indeed the case. It's not a crime to ask for something but it becomes one if your less than ethical inquiry is agreed to. Every one has a reason for being pissed off about this but for crying out loud. Everyone is doing everything they can to fix it except for the people bitching about it. Sh*t happens sometimes and you have to pull yourselves up by the boot straps and do what you can. I'm sick and tired of the committees and the media hype and Obama playing games. It's time people looked forward and stopped the blame game.

  • its, that whole comment was blaming people. You can not say stop blaming but you are people are to blame. Really!!!!! Oh yeah just make a mess out of the wetlands and have to clean up animals. The wetlands are part of an ecosystem(do you know what that is?) see that word system. In a system things are supposed to work together. The animals also part of the ecosystem!!!!! Really it is far worse than a mess and cleaning animals. Oh and also ANIMALS DIE IN THINGS LIKE THIS!!! Sorry you do not care about them!!!

  • I love how certain people miss the point entirely and continue with their bashing of whatever side.

The question was wouldn't our country be in a better place if ALL politicians cared about ANYTHING (other than money & power) as much as he cares about this issue?

And the difference between this gentleman and Beck; is Beck practices his crying before he goes on camera.

"You can not say stop blaming but you are people are to blame. "
