What is going on with the Iraqi War?

When Obama was running in 2008, he pledged that combat troops would depart Iraq at the rate of one brigade a month and would all be home within 16 months of his inauguration.

Once he was elected, he changed his mind and decided to stick with Bush's time schedule of withdrawing by August 2010. Now halfway through 2010, he has extended it to 2011 or beyond.

What is going on? Why are we still there?

  • Obama said what he thought people wanted to hear. Then he got the job and realized giving the people what they thought they wanted was going to create much worse than he or 'they' (the people) anticipated in the theory stages of their plan.

Exactly! You see, ALL of Obama's "experience" is in THEORY...until his current job title, he never had to actually see things through--he never stuck around long enough to see his ideas fall apart, or to test his hypothesis'! LOL

See this is where having a president with actual real life experience--particularly military experience, or at least a strong knowledge of military history (you know, what has worked well in the past) would have come in handy. But, I digress....

  • You lie! Obama got us out of Iraq a long time ago. Stop lying!

  • Another brilliant Obama supporter.

We will be in Iraq until the economy improves. Period.

  • We will likely have troops there for years.

  • Munch, don't be too hard on her. There are plenty of people who believed Obama when he said he would pull the troops out. Most of them were ardent Obama supporters.

As much as I would LOVE to see us pull out of Iraq, it's unfeasible for the current administration to do so. Our unemployment rate would skyrocket. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we aren't still in Iraq in 2012 and beyond.

  • It's one thing to make a campaign pledge when you think you've got all the facts and world peace is easy to piece together on paper. It's another to get into office and face reality.

No one wants to be in a war. No one wants to drag this out. BUT, we need to leave in a way that doesn't massacre the troops last to leave or undo all the work that has been done thus far.

Obama said what he thought people wanted to hear. Then he got the job and realized giving the people what they thought they wanted was going to create much worse than he or 'they' (the people) anticipated in the theory stages of their plan.

Are you being facetious or are you really unaware of reality?

  • Only Obama is allowed to change his mind.  He won't admit he lied, he won't admit he was wrong.
