How much should an 8 month old eat?

I feed her 4 oz at 6 am (try for 6 but always only 4) , 4oz fruit with cereal and 2 oz bottle at 10, 6 oz at 2pm, 3 oz veggies 5:30, 6 oz bottle at 6:45, 4 oz in the middle of the night when she wakes up... does this seem like enough, too much, not enough???

  • Well, my son is 8 months and eat a little more than that. He's in the 50th percentile for weight too. His doctor said to make sure he drink at least 24oz of formula a day. He usually wakes up and has a 6 oz bottle at about 9 am, then at about noon has a 4 oz bottle and some fruit and cereal. Then he'll have another 6 oz bottle before his dinner. For dinner,at around 6, he has some vegetables and a 4 oz. bottle. Then, before bed, he has another 6 oz. bottle. There are days when he'll eat more, but it just depends. I think as long as your daughter is growing and doesn't seem hungry, she's probably fine. However, it's always good to discuss eating habits with her doctor.

  • It sounds like enough to me. If baby is full and thriving you are doind great mama :) My doctor said if they aer thriving well there isnt a minumum amount of formula if they are well established on solids :)

  • My sons schedule:

    wake up(0700-0800): 6 oz bottle
0900-1000: 1 4oz jar baby fruit, handful of cheerios, water
    1130- 6oz bottle
1300- 2 jars of baby veggies, water
    1430 6oz bottle
1700- 3 4oz jars baby food, one mixed with oatmeal, water
    1800- bath
    1900- bed

he has been on this schedule since 6 months, dr suggested it and it works like a charm. He weighs 18.14, and is happy and sleeps well all night :) he'll be 9 months next week!

  • A baby is supposed to be drinking 32oz of formula a day at that age. So, your baby is not drinking enough. Formula before solids.
