leaking milk?

I've seen many questions about leaking milk and women saying they leaked for 2 years or longer. If you nurse for a long time (a year or more) and wean gradually usually your milk goes away as you wean.

For those of you that leak, how long did you nurse and how did you wean?

  • With my first I nursed for 12 months, my son self weaned between 12 and 14 months (I also got pregnant when he was 12 months) I didn't leak at all during my pregnancy. With my second I nursed for 13 months and then he began self weaning for the next 6/7 weeks. I leaked for several months, but I could still squeeze a little milk out after his 2nd birthday.

  • Not me, but my SIL nursed her last baby 9 months, weaned slowly, and had milk til "baby" was over 3 - because her DH wouldn't leave her boobs alone. I have a feeling that's the case with more women, they just don't realize than their man playing with their boobs sexually can sometimes keep up a minor supply. Once SIL got her DH to leave them alone for a month she finally dried up completely. Stimulation keeps the milk around!

  • I have been lactating for 9 years- stimulation or not. extended nursing or not. Some women never stop producing.

  • My daughter is 3 years old today and self weaned about 1 month ago. While I am not leaking I can get a little by hand expressing, but I mean very little. All women are different.
