How long did you have your LOs rear facing?

If your little one(s) are no longer rear facing, what age/weight did you switch them?

  • About 6 months with the oldest and about 10 with the youngest... My oldest hit 30lbs at just over 3 months and the youngest screamed so much it was making it hard to drive safely...

  • 15 months, 25lbs.
I wanted to go longer, but her legs just didn't fit and she hated it, she made every car journey a hell until we turned her around and she loves it now.
I understand the safety issues though, and I know rear facing is better for longer but some babies just won't let you.

is that a typo?? That would be a record size baby, that can't be right..... most 2 year olds don't weigh 30lbs

  • 30lbs at 3 months old? I hope that's either a typo or you have an obese child on your hands.

I turned my son around a week before his 1st birthday, he was right around 20lbs.

  • Before 1 year old? Did you know the *minimum* age is 1 yr old. For a reason. The muscle strength has nothing to do with how safe a child is forward facing. Its how well developed the bones are. Also has nothing to do with weight.

    Check this out: http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/reprint/pediatrics;109/3/550.pdf

Please do you research. Keep your child rear facing until *at least* 1 year old AND 20 lbs.

  • When they reached the max height (I have skinny kids so weight was not an issue) and that was about 23 months with #1 and 25 months with #2. If I could have fir a bigger seat in my car then they would have been RF longer. I am an EMT and have seen way too many accidents where the children were seriously hurt because they were put into a car seat they were not ready for yet.
