Why are cleft lips so common in foreign countries?

  • because they don't have access to folic acid which prevents birth defects

  • Well, they don't have very much access to any pre-natal care in developing or third world countries and neither do they have much access to any health care. So as a result when they do have children with birth deformities it is not as easy to get it rectified as it is here in the U.S. In many cases these countries ( such as India, Most African countries, South America's etc etc) people are extremely poor and as a result it is a fight just to survive.
