Would you let your 10 year old wear false eyelashes?

My girl is 10. All her long, full, beautiful eyelashes have fallen out. Her eye brows are falling out too. This is just a year after half the hair on her head fell out, but thankfully, has grown back in. She has not asked for false eyelashes, but we're on summer break and kids next year in 5th grade might be awful, and I want to be prepared.

We are seeing her doctor, several actually, to find out wtf is going on.

In this scenario, would you go with the false eyelashes?

  • i would be worried about the false eyelashes interfering with the regrowth of her eyelashes. like others have said, i wouldn't consider it unless she was really asking for them. kids have an amazing way of coping.

  • Not unless she asks for them. If her self esteem is high without artificial aids then don't make a big deal about it. I had scars that my dad was always trying to hide. I was fine with them but he made me self conscious about them. Sometimes parents make more of things than kids do. Listen to her but don't push her into ideas you think are right. She may be fine with herself, as is

  • Does she have alopecia?  That would be my first guess.  In this case though if she asked about lashes I would let her.  They also make fake eye brows too if she wants them.

  • Yes, if she had alopecia. But I wouldn't allow her to wear them for no reason. A ten year old is still a kid. No makeup, no fake eye lashes- unless we're playing a dressup game at home!

  • It depends on why they fell out; if they are going to grow in over the summer I wouldn't. I wear false eyelashes almost all of the time, I started wearing them every weekend when my band played out. They made my natural lashes very thin.

There are lots of options for false eyelashes, if you do go that route, you can find some that look pretty natural, and with a little practice it will be hard to tell she's wearing them. Hugs to both of you, this has got to be rough on her.

  • In this case: If she ask for them, yes... BUT I would not even bring it up if she does not. I would try to help my child feel beautiful in her skin just as she is... When I see woman with their heads shaved (or should i just say bald from chemo) & walk around with a smile I think they are more beautiful than the longest hair could ever give them!
Every child is different & this is a difficult age, so if false lashes give her the confidence she needs then yes, 100% id let her..

  • no, i don't think kids that age will pay that much attention. Maybe just put a little brown eyeliner on her upper eyelid so it doesnt interfere with the growth

  • I have alopecia, and yes, kids DO notice these things. kids are cruel at a young age, but if she doesn't mention the eyelashes, i wouldn't bring it up.
