Why is the recession is lingering?

When people point out how bad things are with the economy now, Obama's defenders like to say that "It's the worst economy since the Great Depresssion,; Look at the mess Bush left," etc.

However, let's look at the economy during the early Bush presidency of 2001 to 2002. There were actually 3 million MORE jobs lost then, yet the unemployment rate never got as high as it is now living under Obama. What changed is that nowhere near as many jobs are being CREATED under this socialist president.

The trillion dollsr "stimulus" was actually political payoffs. The mess of a health care bill, the coming tax increases (due to Bush's tax cuts expiring) have all created a climate where companies in the private sector do not want (or are afraid) to hire.

Maybe next time people will vote for someone with actual work experience, rather than an expert in getting the government to give you free stuff (community organizing).

  • This is what is happening. Businesses are being threatend (and promised) with taxes out the gazoo so they will not hire. Who wants to hire someone when you know you will be coming into more hard times? In January Bushes tax credits will disappear and many businesses will incur new taxes with the coming healthcare rules. Theree have been new fees and taxes added to so many things that you do not even know about. Thats why people are not getting hired. There is much more going on though, The unthinkable spending this administration is doing is, for people who know a bit about economics is a killer of many things. This country is quickly coming into the same realm as Greece. It's been said by 2012 we will have a debt of 100% of GDP. Thats GREECE people. Bush didn't cause this. He spent to much money but it is hypocritical for Libs to say Obamas spending will help and not hurt.

  • Bush inherited a strong economy, before he trashed it, along with cutting regulators and appointing regulators from the industries they are supposed to be regulating. Why do you think the mining deaths have increase so dramatically?

The oil leaking out of the planet will ruin not just the world's environment, but it's economy, too. China will be the number one country very soon, not the US. I have nightmares about China demanding repayment of the loans to the US.

  • Why ask a question if your going to answer it? The journal catagory would have been more appropriate for you to express your opinion. Of course your completely wrong in your opinion. The stimulus wasn't payoffs, and the health care bill wasn't a mess. It used to be that the difference in wages and salaries between the lowest paid employee and the highest paid or owner fo the company was like 3% or something like that. Now its like 300%. Its greed keeping employers from hiring. I'm happy with Obama, especially when I consider that it could have been McCain and what a huge mess we'd be in right now if he were President.

  • No President could have come in and cleaned up the mess left to him in one year. It's funny how people have memory loss and forget why we are in this mess in the first place. Bush had 8 years to create the mess.  Give Obama a little more time to try and fix it.

  • If giving him more time includes taking away the checkbook then fine. He has a term that he gets to serve because of the idiots that voted for him. Goodie for you, you made history. I just hope you are as willing to make him own his part in this debacle as you are willing to put it all on Bush's shoulders. The sun doesn't rise and set on Obama. He isn't extraordinary in any way but as a public speaker, and only if he has a teleprompter guiding the way. He is all fluff and no decision making. He lies to try to recreate history (like they were on the oil leak from day 1, yeah, right). You bet they were on it, just in a "BP sure did give us lots of money and we wouldn't want to lose that in our next election cycle, we should give them some time to make their own decisions, because ignoring the inspections we were supposed to do for a year now has worked out so well" kind of way. Obama = FAIL.
