What does or did your 6 month old eat in day?

I want to make sure I am not overfeeding my infant. She never seems to be full, she would eat the spoon and all if I let her lol.

  • Breastmilk or formula needs to be a baby's main source of nutrition for the first year. If formula feeding a baby needs about 32 oz of formula a day.

I never spoonfed or used baby food. At six mo. I had just started solids and fork mashed banana and sweet potato and let my babies feed themselves. Babies should only eat a couple of tablespoons max at a meal. These are current recommendations and what La Leche League has been recommending for 30 years or more.

  • What Gailll said. However, my son did eat differently..it was back in 1996 and I didn't know. I fed him real food and tons of it. He also had around 32 oz a formula too. He wasn't fat, but, I think babies should wait longer to eat and should eat differently now.

  • We just started my 6 month old on solids, but she only getes about a teaspoon of squash or avocado in the morning after she's nursed. When she is 7months, we'll start giving her a second teaspoon of another fruit or vegetable in the early evening. I think babies should be started off very slowly on solids, to give their digestive systems time to adjust. Their main source of nutrition should be breastmilk or formula.

  • At 6 months, my son was only nursing. At 6 months my daughter was nursing, and eating 1-2 small servings of baby food per day.

  • 6 months is prime growth spurt time. My baby had breastmilk at that age. I gave her tastes of apple when I was eating it but she didn't get anything but delight from gumming it.
