Where did our timeline come from?

Christ is at 0, or 1 and now we live in 2010. How did the civilizations in BC get their dates? Was the year of the Messiah being count down? Need some info...thanks.

  • It was introduced in 525 AD/CE by Dionysius Exiguss who used it to computate the Christian easter festival used later by the historian the Venerable Bede in 731 and it caught on from there rising in popularity as a dating system as Christianity itself rose.
